Severus Alexander

Marcus Aurelius Severus Alexander, Caesar 221 - 222, Augustus 222 - 235

Cousin of Elagabalus, Severus Alexander was born (Marcus Aurelius Severus Alexianus) c208. At first, Elagabalus was very fond of his cousin, and appointed him as Caesar in 221. As Alexander's popularity amongst the troops increased, however, his cousin became jealous, and his position was becoming ever more dangerous when Elagabalus was killed. The Praetorians immediately proclaimed Alexander emperor, and the senate concurred. His rule was wise and moderate, but his over dependence on his mother, Julia Mamaea, and her continual interference with state affairs caused much unrest with the army. As the emperor prepared to face the Germans, the troops declared one of their generals, Maximinus, emperor and Alexander was killed along with his detested mother in the army camp near Mainz

Fides represents faith. In the sense of this coin, she represents the  faith of the army. So much for that.
