Philip II

Marcus Julius Philippus, Caesar 244 - 247, Augustus 247 - 249

The son of Philip I , he was raised to the position of Caesar on his father's accession, and then to Augustus in 247. He probably died along with his father in battle against the rebel troops of Decius at the battle of Verona.

The third donative, or "Liberalitas" of Philip I was issued on the elevation of Philip II to the rank of Augustus. This is a quite beautiful coin, and the young emperor must have been well pleased with it.
