Gordian III

Marcus Antonius Gordianus, Caesar 238, Augustus 238 - 244

Nephew of Gordian II and grandson of Gordian I, Gordian III was made Caesar by the joint emperors Pupienus and Balbinus in 238, and on their murder was proclaimed Augustus by the Praetorians. Little is known about his reign, though his military campains in the east appear to have been very successful. He was murdered through the machinations of the prefect of the Praetorian guard, Marcus Julius Philippus.
