Flavius Julius Crispus, Caesar 317 - 326Son of Constantine I
, Crispus was made Caesar in 317, along with his half-brother Constantine II and Licinius II. Crispus was a fine and popular soldier, winning many victories for the empire. Crispus was
Constantine's son by his first wife Helena, and as such presented an obstacle to the dynastic ambitions of
Constantine's second wife, Fausta, mother of Constantine II, Constantius II and Constans. She brought
evidence (almost certainly fabricated) of Crispus' treason before Constantine, who had his son imprisoned and executed in 326. When
Constantine learned of Fausta's treachery, this first Christian emperor had her thrown into a vat of boiling water.

AE3Obv: Laureate bust of Crispus, right. IVL CRISPVS NOB CRev : VOT V within a wreath.
CAESARUM NOSTRORVM VOT V refers to prayers of thanks given for five years of Crispus' reign. Despite it seeming so, this is not a good indicator of the coin's year of minting. AD 317 - 326
