Saloninus

Publius Licinius Cornelius Valerianus, Caesar 255 - 259, Augustus 259

Younger son of Gallienus , Saloninus was made Caesar on the death of his elder brother Valerian II in 255. He was subsequently elevated to the rank of Augustus in 259. Whilst on the Rhine frontier, he fell foul of the usurper Postumus, who took advantage of the capture of the emperor Valerian I to proclaim himself emperor. He took over Saloninus' headquarters at Cologne and executed the young emperor.
