Officially Constantine III, Constans was the son of Heraclius Constantine and grandson of Heraclius . He was for the most part a successful emperor, but a great blow to the empire, the permanent loss of Egypt, occurred during his reign. He had considerable success against the Slavs, many of whom he ultimately recruited into the Imperial army. Towards the end of his reign, he removed the Imperial capital to Syracuse, where he was assassinated in 668. |
